Location
Triyuginarayan Temple is a sacred Hindu shrine located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of around 1,980 meters (6,500 ft). It lies approximately 12 kilometers from Sonprayag, on the route to Kedarnath, and is surrounded by stunning vistas of snow-clad mountains and dense forests.
Historical & Mythological Significance
The Triyuginarayan Temple is deeply rooted in Sanatana Dharma and is revered as the Eternal Wedding Site of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The word triyugi means three yugas (satya, treta, and dvapara), and Narayan refers to Lord Vishnu, Who is believed to have acted as Parvati’s Brother and officiated The Celestial Wedding.
According to scriptures, Lord Brahma Acted as the priest during The Wedding, and Agni (fire) was lit as a witness. This eternal flame (akhand dhuni) still burns in front of The Temple and is believed to have been burning since The Divine Wedding, symbolizing eternal love and union.
The Temple is constructed in the north indian himalayan architectural style, similar to Kedarnath Temple, and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. However, it holds immense significance for devotees of Shiva And Parvati.
